Riobamba is located in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes in the province of Chimborazo near magnificent Mt. Chimborazo. It is the land of the Incas, an area rich in history, physical beauty, culture and religion. But extreme poverty also plagues the area and the indigenous people who live and farm there. Nearly 25% of the entire population of Ecuador has now fled the country and most are from this area. Scores of families flee the poverty of the countryside seeking work in cities such as Riobamba. Unprepared for life in the city, many adults flee the country entirely leaving scores of children with other family, friends or just left on the streets. These children have little hope and are faced with starvation, illness and a lack of education. Worse, child labor or sexual slavery are often the reality of their lives. It is these children that we serve.
